Day 31 - Favourite Athlete

After going through the challenge with YC, I realised I only watched one bunch of athletes during my childhood - the bunch of wrestlers on WWF!

Watching the show through the years, I still can remember a few wrestlers like hulk Hogan, the Bush Whackers and Bret Hart. I do remember that I did enjoy watching this one wrestler, and I found him cool because he had quite a nice entrance track, and he did scare the shit out of a lot of competitors. Not to mention he had a really funny 'manager'.

Day 30 - Favourite Variety Programme or Reality Series

I would have said The Amazing Race, but it somehow got boring for me. Though I get to see different countries and interesting facts about them, the focus is still on the contestants and some of them ought to be murdered. So my pick will be Survivor as that's when being obnoxious can either help you get to the top, or you'll be out next.

So it might be even more boring location-wise, as the game doesn't move from one location. However, the unpredictable weather helps make things interesting, especially when you see how stupid people can be when building their shelter, only to have a swimming pool right in the middle when it rains and flood the pit they dig out. Then there's the backstabbing and lying, and seeing how far all that can take you before it bites you back in the butt. Karma is definitely part of the show. Not forgetting the token nut case in every season!

The amazing thing about the show is the games they come up with. Well some are games we play, but some are really interesting games that make you wonder who came up with them. Not only are the games interesting, it's how they actually clear an area in the jungle to build an obstacle course, or build the game out at sea, that just mind blowing sometimes.

Day 29 - Favourite Theme Song from a TV Series

Take a guess which show this is from:

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To Happy people like you--
Happy people like
What a beautiful

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street...
How to get to Sesame Street
How to get to...

Day 28 - Favourite Male Character in a Movie

Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean

Even though I haven't watch the first movie, it was definitely the crazy things this character went through in the 2nd movie that got me hooked. I especially loved the part where he got caught by the cannibal tribe. First the row of eyes on his face (that keeps me laughing every time I think about it), then the stunts while trying to evade being cooked and eaten by them. Hilarious!

But it's his flamboyant and obnoxious behaviour that just makes the character such an interesting one to watch and wonder what will he get up to next.

Day 27 - Favourite Female Character in a TV Series

Penelope Garcia in Criminal Minds

She's quirky, flirty, sassy, and waaaaaaaaay too good with computers & electronics. Recruited by the FBI because she was one of the best hackers (interesting job interview?), it's the way she answers her calls that makes you laugh when she proclaims her greatness. Then there's that flirty side between her and Morgan that just makes puts a smile on your face even though the episode is super serious and dramatic.

Then even with her strong character, the sight of blood and gore still gets her squirming, and the horrid acts get her angry. That's what makes her character really human, and a little bit familiar, for me.

Day 26 - Favourite Comedic Movie

This one is tough. Maybe because I find humour even in serious movies that it's hard to find a show I would find to be the best comedy. There are a few movies that were good, but I haven't seen the classics and the comedies these days are quite crap. So I'll pick one in between, Mrs. Doubtfire.

Well the antics to get you laughing were simple, the lines didn't have crap in them, and the characters were not obnoxious or disgusting. Maybe the classics were good like this but I guess I'll have to watch and see if any might make the list.

Day 25 - Favourite Male Character in a TV Series

Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds. Smart, awkward, and I absolutely envy the speed reading skills. So they're fake, but still, there are people who can speed read, though I doubt anyone can do it as his speed. So smart characters are always made to be awkward, but somehow the struggle with his emotions and fears make him much more human and less of a robot.

So the puppy here is stealing the show...

Monday, January 24, 2011

Day 24 - Favourite On-Screen Couple

On of the easy ones... this 'award' goes to Mr & Mrs Smith from the movie with the same name.
Well the chemistry between them was obviously there, on-screen and off, and it was probably why they seem as though they really were married to each other.

The movie was rather predictable, but the part where they were trying to kill each other was one of the best - funny yet passionate. Plus they fact they both look good does help they eyes a bit.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Day 23 - Favourite Actor

I'm gonna pick Johnny Depp only because I liked him in Edward Scissorhands, and absolutely enjoyed him in Pirates of the Caribbean.

I've yet to watch his other shows, but since I don't watch enough movies to really know if the actor is good or not, I'm just picking him because I like the way he played his characters.

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Day 22 - Favourite Drama Series

I think it has to be Criminal Minds as it has a lot less focus on relationships and love interests for the main characters and more on the criminal and their personalities. Too much relationship crap sometimes just make the show rather boring when your more interested in the process of elimination they use to catch the bad guy.

CSI was fun at first, when the big focus was all about the forensic process, but when they started to have the staff going into relationships, the interesting bits were cut short.  Criminal Minds, however, focuses on the different aspect of nutty personalities that end up with them catching the killers. I guess because there's a million different things they could go into, they don't really have to bother about adding love interests and all that to 'jazz' up the show.

Day 21 - Favourite Song

BEAUTIFUL - Christina Aguilera

Everyone should listen to the words and take heed to what it's saying. Love the song. Love the singer. Loved the uncensored video too!

Don't look at me

Every day is so wonderful
And suddenly, it's hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the pain, I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The piece is gone left the puzzle undone
Is that the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down
Don't you bring me down today...

No matter what we do
(no matter what we do)
No matter what they say
(no matter what they say)
We're the song that's out of tune
Full of beautiful mistakes

And everywhere we go
(everywhere we go)
The sun will always shine
(sun will always, always shine)
But tomorrow wwe might awake on the other side

'cause we are beautiful no matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down, oh no
We are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring us down
So don't you bring me down today

Don't you bring me down today

Day 20 - Favourite Celebrity Couple

There isn't really a whole list of celebrity couples to choose from but then again, so many of them you doubt will last. At first I thought I might pick a couple who has been at it for a while, but then I really got nothing much to blog about them. Then I finally realised one couple that I've been quite amazed by and they are Seal & Heidi.

Firstly, it's the fact that she has so many kids and still look better than some models who hasn't has kids and is just getting old, and all the 'baggage' that comes with it (or so they claim). Not only does she look great, so does he. Let's not talk about their kids.

I guess it's not only that they look good together and that they have kids that I'd think they go far. Look at Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, who had 3 girls, and stayed together for quite a while before they decided to split. It was one episode of the Oprah show that probably said quite a lot about how they cared for each other, when Heidi helped to reunite Seal's adoptive parents that he had long lost contact with. Plus the fact that they get involved in each other's jobs, I would say is a way to be supportive.

Well all the best to their marriage, though I don't think they need any more help.

Day 19 - Favourite Female Character in a Movie

Angie would probably laugh her heart out if I would say Storm in the X-Men Series, though I do like her character, even in the cartoon version. Then there's Vivian in Pretty Woman, and probably the reason why it's my favourite romantic movie. So I guess I'll have to talk about another movie's character which I liked a lot - Mia in The Princess Diaries.

Well even though Julie Andrews played her part really really well, it's Mia's character that made it a really enjoyable show. Just like Vivian who transforms from a prostitute to a lady, Mia transforms from a regular, or rather nerdy, and slightly unpopular teenager, into a princess. It's the transformation process that is the whole show, but it was rather interesting to see how they can first change a beautiful actress into a really geeky teenager with almost unibrows and braces. Then to show the whole process of getting that actress back.

However, it was the growing up part that probably hit close to home. The time when all of us girls grow up and start to pick on how every thing on us looks. Where, at a certain point, all of us have to grow up and take responsibility. Much more relatable than a prostitute turning into a lady.

Day 18 - Favourite Book

I would say it's a book lent to me by Edith about 7 years back, and I think it was the book that got me into looking at books with whimsy covers - Baby, Oh Baby! by Robin Wells.

The story itself might be like any other quirky romance novel, but it was one part that got me laughing really hard, and every time I hear about or see Twinkies, it makes me either laugh or smile.

I guess you'd have to read the book to find out about the Twinkies.

Monday, January 17, 2011

Day 17 - Favourite Music Album

I would probably die before I am able to choose one album and stick to it, but I think I can say Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" could be one of the few. This is one album I could listen to over and over, and not skip any of the songs, although I wouldn't mind shuffling the songs around once in a while.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Day 16 - Favourite Actress

I shall go with Sandra Bullock because I've seen her in serious roles, and I've seen her in funny roles, and she does both kinds quite well. I've yet to watch The Blind Side, which I need to find a little time for. I find that she doesn't over-do her acting when it calls for her to be funny, and I guess maybe that's why I rather watch her comedies and can't tolerate actors like Ben Stiller & Will Farrell.

Also the fact that she cares for 2 handicapped dogs is a plus point on my list.
.

Day 15 - Favourite Author

Tough one, as I haven't read enough to really find an author I'd stick to. I do have a small little compiliation waiting to be completed (and I think I'll just go and get the last damn book online) by Shirley Jump. My sis got me the first book, which was The Devil Served Tortellini, and told me that I would probably like the book (and I think she literally judged it by the cover). However, I did like the book, and I got 2 more from the similar food-related titles, which I both enjoyed. Now I'm hunting for the last one.

So I like her books (other than the fact that it had recipes in it - not sure if they're even real) is that she was not long-winded. Most books I like are rather light-hearted, straight to the point, and either funny or heart wrenching.

Friday, January 14, 2011

Day 14 - Favourite Musical Movie

Have to say The Sound of Music for it being the first one that I watched, and probably why I still enjoy watching musicals over most movies. With a lot of songs I learnt in my childhood coming from that movie, it was quite easy to understand how quickly it was to start singing along to the songs. With added visual stimulation, songs that were only music and words soon had movie scenes playing at the back of my mind.

Now most songs give a boost or add a certain mood to a movie, but with musicals, it's like putting a story behind the lyrics, that sometimes we could never have visualised. Maybe that's why I like Glee too!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Day 13 - Favourite Music Video

It's the music video for the song "Telephone" by Sheena Easton which I saw over 20 years ago and loved it as I found it rather funny.

Maybe it was also the fact that I was into the Addams Family at that point, but it's funny how a vampire actually can be afraid of a woman who is angry about calls not answered.

The strange things that amuse me.

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Day 12 - Favourite Book to Movie Adaptation

I've either read the book and not seen the movie, or seen the movie and not read to the book. Leaving me with about 3 movies that fall in this category - Romeo and Juliet, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Marley & Me. So out of the 3, I'd say Romeo and Juliet just because it made a really old play into something much more modern and definitely much easier to understand than old English. That and also the fact that the books for the other 2 were better than the movies.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Day 11 - Favourite Horror Movie

Can I say I don't have one? They're all tooooooo dumb. The only 1 I actually completed watching without getting fed up with the stupid victims was the original version of The Ring. The only reason I watched the whole show was because I paid for the damn ticket but then again, the victims didn't really have a choice to run into a second floor bathroom and think they can hide from a psycho with a chainsaw.

Anyhoo.... I find Sadako's look a cool way to tell people you're annoyed with them. Mwuahahahaha!

Day 10 - Favourite Musical Famale Artiste

This one was easy - Christina Aguilera.

She was the best voice of the bunch that included Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson who all decided that the late 1990's was the best time to break out into the music scene. Even though the music videos, and some songs were just cheesy then, her Stripped album was a whole lot better, probably because she had a lot more freedom with the songs. That's also when one of my favourite songs, Beautiful, was released. Now I'm getting hooked to the song Express from the movie Burlesque - that I sooooo want to watch.

Sunday, January 09, 2011

Day 9 - Favourite Host

Well I would pick Ellen DeGeneres for this one since I gave talk show to Oprah. Hahaha... Although the real reason is that she can range from being really serious to really crazy, and not many hosts can actually do that and appear to be genuine.

Just within one episode of her show, she could petition for people to give to charity, entertain people with her dance moves and jokes, and make someone's life all that much better. However, I doubt there is any host who has yet to be as committed as her, to host her show in a hospital bed when she had a really bad injury with her back. Then to continue to host when she can barely sit properly so that everyone would have at least an hour of entertainment in a day.

Saturday, January 08, 2011

Day 8 - Favourite Comedy Series

There are just too many to choose from in this category with good old ones like "I Love Lucy", "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "M*A*S*H*", "Allo Allo", "Fawlty Towers" and "Mind Your Language", to slightly more current ones like "Mr Bean", "That 70's Show", "How I Met Your Mother", "Frasier", "Arrested Development", and "Glee".

I think my first one was I Love Lucy, with Lucille Ball doing the wackiest things to rectify problems, only to end up making some sort of mess all the time. The latest indulgence would be Glee, with the added bonus of great songs being covered by the cast in every show.

How can I choose a favourite out of the list?

Day 7 - Favourite Musical Male Artiste

I couldn't think of one person I could put in this post until Christmas eve, when I watched some Christmas special mom put on, and I could just let it go on, disappointed when it ended. It probably would shock quite a few people to say that I enjoy listening to Andrea Bocelli, but I guess his voice is pleasant and I could listen to him singing till I fall asleep.

It was quite obvious that day when mom played U2's concert, and after 10 minutes, I asked if there was something better to entertain me while I prepared food. Then she put the Christmas special on, and while she went to relax with the music playing, I enjoyed the music while cutting veggies. That's until this part of the show came on, and I had to stop as it was just tooooooo cute to just listen to.

And this is one of the few songs I can keep listening to over and over again as it is definitely much better than the original.

Dear Mr Eddie Kheng

Hope the day goes well at work :)

Day 6 - Favourite Animated Movie

RATATOUILLE!

I'd say the whole movie was great but these few parts just make cooking and eating now much more fun, and funny:

The way Remy just added a bit of this and that to the pot to make the soup right - just the way cooking should be, 'aggar-ration'.

The way Remy describes to Emile about tasting notes and how it feels like fireworks & symphony in your mind - comes to mind whenever I taste new food.

How they actually made the final ratatouille and plated it - looking better than some dishes on Top Chef

How Anton Ego was brought back to his childhood with one bite of that ratatouille, and how it brought tears to his eyes - I guess everyone has felt this, something (be it food or a toy or whatever) that gets all the memories flooding back in and brings tears to you eyes.

Reminds me of my new year's resolution.....

Dear Mdm Shirley Ho...

Day 5 - Favourite Theme Song From A Movie

The one that best fits the movie would probably have to be Roy Orbison's 'Pretty Woman' in the movie with the very same name. Other than it being catchy and a really fun song to play on Band Hero/Rock Band, it actually fit the movie rather well, unlike most theme songs these days that just seem to be aural stimuli to the action the eyes are taking in.

Go watch the video and sing along:

Pretty woman, walking down the street
Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet
Pretty woman
I don't believe you, you're not the truth
No one could look as good as you
Mercy

Pretty woman, won't you pardon me
Pretty woman, I couldn't help see
Pretty woman
That you look lovely as can be
Are you lonely just like me
Wow

Pretty woman, stop a while
Pretty woman, talk a while
Pretty woman, give your smile to me
Pretty woman, yeah yeah yeah
Pretty woman, look my way
Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me
'Cause I need you, I'll treat you right
Come with me baby, be mine tonight

Pretty woman, don't walk on by
Pretty woman, don't make me cry
Pretty woman, don't walk away, hey...okay
If that's the way it must be, okay
I guess I'll go on home, it's late
There'll be tomorrow nigh, but wait
What do I see
Is she walking back to me
Yeah, she's walking back to me
Oh, oh, Pretty woman

Day 4 - Favourite Musical Group

This one can leave me going round and round trying to pick one group, guess maybe it's the Libra's indecisiveness that comes into play with regards to my favourite things. Anyway, the few groups that come to mind are Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and Backstreet Boys.

Oh yeah, the Backstreet Boys were sooooo 1999. I guess I like them because of the time they got famous and the songs they sang were either catchy or quite nice to listen to during that time in my life. Somehow I like them better than N Sync, probably because they did less of the irritating vocal rollercoaster thing.

Maroon 5 is somewhat like BSB for my current age group. The songs are slightly more mature, but just as catchy or rather nice to sway to. The lead vocals can be a bit nasal though.

So maybe I could say Linkin Park is the current favourite, and maybe for a long time if they keep on doing what they're doing. They first caught my attention by having a rock band with a dj, that also had a screaming lead vocalist with a rapper on the side, an interesting mix which I got hooked on to with the song 'Numb' - plus the fact that it spoke to the heart did help me like them more. However, it's what they continued to do after their first album that has got me keeping them in my list, not only did they make a great collaboration with Jay-Z, their current album turned out to have a really different vibe that still got me sitting in the car a little while longer just to listen to it play out.

I'm Hooked!

Day 3 - Favourite Action Movie

At first I was thinking that Air Force One would be the movie picked for today's post, but on 2nd thought, I think I'd say Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Even though this particular sequel to the series has the most comedic scenes, it is still somehow categorised as an action movie, and I can say it's the one that I enjoy so much, I've watch it about 5 times and never got sick of it. Plus I still keep giggling just thinking of the scenes in the movie, such as the one below.

And to think I haven't really watch the first movie and I just caught the 3rd one of the series.

Sunday, January 02, 2011

Day 2 - Favourite Talk Show

I haven't really seen many talk shows that have captured my attention enough to get me anticipating the next episode except for Oprah, The Ellen DeGeneres Show & Rachel Ray. I guess each of the 3 have their own kind of pull, with Oprah being the one I would really consider a talk show.

Even though the show does have it's really boring episodes - such as the ones concerning people who just don't know how to prioritise their money/life - most episodes are rather insightful, even if it's just an interview with someone. Probably it's the fact that she can get some really interesting answers to her questions as everyone seems to be comfortable with her.

One thing that definitely sets her apart is the way she handles her guests with class and respect, unlike one other host (not mentioned above) that actually lectured her guests during an episode itself. The thing I like best about her show is when she raves about her favourite things - the way she swoons over certain things - makes you wonder how good it really is. However you can't forget the serious issues she brings up that can also touch/move people into action, which is another great thing about her and her show. It has become a good platform to bring about change for certain issues.

Obama definitely got a good supporter.

Day 1 - Favourite Romantic Movie

I think to say that a movie is a favourite, I've to at least remember what happened throughout the movie. However, of all the movies I'd list as romantic, I can only recall the main story but can't recall specific scenes in them. SO going through the list in my head, the only one I could remember was actually "Pretty Woman".

I could say it is sort of romantic, it is a rather like a fairytale with the not so helpless damsel, who meets her prince, faced with problems in the world, and has some happy ending - although this one has a slightly more adult theme to it.

Best parts about this movie:

- when Julia Roberts' character first tried to eat escargot and it flies out of the tongs and into the waiter's hand. Thought me sometimes it's just better to use ur fingers. Hahaha

- when she tells off the shop keepers who snubbed her the day before due to what she was wearing. "BIG mistake! HUGE!" which makes me giggle every time I carry a bunch of shopping bags.

- the face of the hotel manager when he first saw her, then when she blew her nose into his handkerchief, and when she finally came down looking like a proper lady.

One movie I can never get sick of watching.
