Oddly enough, I got this book all because of the interviews done with the author, Steve Harvey, on the Ellen show and Oprah. Some of the things he said were just too funny and I wondered how good a read it would be, not realising that I was actually going to read a relationship help book. However, after reading through it, and even though it was an eye-opener to some behaviours of guys, it did make me laugh at a lot of things, and also laugh every now and then when certain things mentioned pops up in life.
There quite a few things mentioned in the book that I do get to see and experience from some of the guys that I know, and Dad is also one walking example. It started right from the beginning, the first thing a guy would do if you are someone special is to give you a title. This one makes me question the one 'title' that someone has been using for more than 15 years. Then it was followed by the part that they will "make sure our families are set - whether we're dead or alive". That line made me think of what my dad has been proud of all this time, that he has not only provided for his own family, he has also provided some sort of security for my sis and I with homes to each of our names. The last point made in the very beginning is the protective instinct, that he will "destroy anything and everything in his path to make sure that whoever disrespects you parts for it". And this is definitely true with so many of the men I know; from my grandfathers, father, uncles and friends.
The book goes on to tell you what should you do so that you don't end up being puppet on a string, or basically a dumbarse waiting for the guy to get things straight. Lets you know how to get what you want and at the same time judge if the guy is even worth you time our effort.
There was this one part that reminded me of another person; "Men love to talk about themselves. We do this because we know that in order to catch you, we have to impress you." Well this same person not only can talk your ears off, he oddly exhibits behaviours the lady should according to the book.
