Yesterday was the day one of my childhood friends/playmates, Melissa, got married. It was a simple affair held at Fort Canning Park in the Fort Canning Center. Mom and I went there around tea-time thinking that most people would have had their food and left but it seemed like they were all just sitting around the place enjoying the nature around them. Only after we got into the dining area did I realise that the place couldn't sit as much people as a void deck celebration would've.
Well since we weren't really hungry, we decided to get pictures with the couple and some with the rest of the family as well. These were people my mom grew up with, who stood up for each other against gangs that were involved with the racial riots, whose kids grew up together. *intro "Circle Of Life" from Disney's The Lion King* One picture my mom HAD to take was obviously one with her long-time, fellow Mah Jong player - Melissa's mom.
Finally we find the line at the buffet shortened and went over to get something for ourselves. Finding a place to sit was another problem. Some people don't seem to realise the small seating capacity and have their butts plastered to the seats long after they were done with their share of the buffet. I didn't get any pics of the food as most time, my plate would be piled with every little thing from the buffet and it looks like segregated swill in the end. Anyway the food was good, though I didn't have the appetite to go for seconds and went to get some dessert. The desserts were a bit of a disappointment. I don't know if it's a recipe from the cooking school there, but if it is they better change it. The desserts were so sweet I think I would have got diabetes if I haven't already. I think the caterer has sugar supplied for free and they made a few mistakes with it. One thing was to add sugar to all the drinks available - Thinking that that fruit punch was too sweet, I got coffee while mom got a tea. What a shock it was to take a sip and find out it was sweeter than the fruit punch. Another mistake was not being able to supply plain drinkng water and think quick on their feet. There were cups of mineral water available earlier but their supply ran out fast and they didn't think that maybe adding water from the tap with a bit of ice would do the job to quench the requests for plain water. By the time they thought of that, everyone was already leaving as the invitation stated that it would end at 6pm.
When we got enough of the heat, we headed towards Park Mall to take a bus to Takashimaya. We ended up having a short coffee break at Dome and I got to catch up with some of my ex-colleagues. They even passed me an application form to fill up and start work there again. I just don't know about going back to a workplace I've left. Then again, the main reason that made me decide I had enough of the place also left.
Well, back to the day.... we got to Takashimaya as I wanted to check out the food fair that was on-going as part of the annual Singapore Food Festival.
