Something From My Mailbox

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.

And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.

Last Passenger

I don't know why is it that taxi drivers these days are so desperate that they would pick up passengers even while ferrying their friends or family home. It might be alright to them and their family/friend that they pick up one last passenger who's destination is along the route to their's but it does get kinda weird for the passenger.

First occasion for me was when I needed a cab home in the middle of the night and I saw one coming my way with the sign lit up that said it was heading towards my home. So I flag it down and it stops right next to me and I just ask if he'd take me. First he tells me that he's actually fetching his friend and apologises to me. He then changes his mind and asks me to get in, almost leaving his friend behind. Then he asks both his friend and I if we mind sharing the cab. That moment was just strange, confusing and rather interesting as well.

Next incident happened just moments ago when one driver, who was ferrying his wife (just to make it easier) somewhere, stopped when I flagged him down. I mean if you went pass me and I saw you had a passenger in the front seat I'd understand why you didn't stop. Instead, he slows to stop infront of me and once I realised he had a passenger, I tried flagging another cab. He then winds the window down and asks me to come in and apologises that I have to share it with his wife. The other cab just kinda went off so I guess it left me with the option to wait on another one or just take the one waiting for me. So I get in and just feel odd again.

These are 2 recent cases that actually triggered a memory I had of another driver, also ferrying his wife somewhere, who actually stopped to take my mom, my sis and myself to somewhere. It wasn't late, dark or raining heavily and I don't even know why the guy stopped but he did the very same thing. Thank goodness we were young and smaller in size, or else it would've been a really uncomfortable ride.

I really don't mind taking these cabs that are just going off duty to take me home with their friend or family member inside. It is really strange, and gets uncomfortable when they start yapping with each other and you're like a busybody, listening in on the conversation.

Don't Know If This Is Legal & I Think They Shouldn't Charge Me The Full Price!

Karma's A Bitch

I don't know why you chose the way to do it but I don't think my mom deserved the way she was treated on your very last day with us. She treated you as a guest, almost as she would her own child, and you ungratefully left without saying a word, not even to confirm your departure.

Don't wanna think about it
Don't wanna talk about it
I'm just so sick about it
I can't believe it's ending this way

After all the chances I gave you, you still lied. After all the warnings I gave, you didn't even bother to stop or slow down. You said you wanted to change, to start being the person you want to be, the person that is not your dad, the person you seem to be turning into. Yet given the opportunity time and again, you don't grab it and , instead, run away. After all the help I've been offering, you leave and all that talk about not being able to repay me has just come true. Whatever you do won't change the past... it might help mend the fence but it won't change the fact you broke it with your choices.

Can you tell me is this fair?
Is the way it's really going down?
Is this how we say goodbye?

It's sad that you've changed so much from the person I knew before. I hope deep down inside you're still the best friend I once had and that you meant everything you said then. I hope one day you start being the man that you think you are, or say you are... that you end up keeping the promises you've made.

Shoulda known better when you came around
That you were gonna make me cry
It's breaking my heart to watch you run around
Cause I know that you're living a lie

I hope you hold on to your decision to quit that one bad habit and that it would domino to others. I hope you don't burn any more bridges as you might one day have to cross one you've just burnt. I don't hate you for what you've done... revenge cramps my style. I am, however, disappointed and all I can do is wish you all the best in days to come.

But that's ok baby, cause in time you will find
What goes around, goes around, goes around, comes all the way, back around

Someone's Plotting My Death?

The past 2 weeks have been slightly nerve-wrecking with the number of accidents I was almost involved in, as well as the one I ended up in. It started on the 1st of May with the drive back from East Coast Park with Amy. First, it was raining really heavily, so bad that most drivers were just driving into the carparks just to stop and avoid driving. Not only did the weather make it hard to drive, the lack of lights there didn't help, tree branches were dropping in the car's path and to make it worse, the lightning was really scary. Anyway, I had to get back as I had work, and there was no use for Amy and I to stay in a car and talk anymore than we already had. So, even with the fear of thunder breaking beside me, I drove Amy back to her place and almost had a mishap along Clementi. I had to brake a little harder than normal and with the wet road, and whatever crap was washed up on the wheels, the brakes kinda squeaked and grunted a little just as we halted to a stop. I'm not sure if we skidded a little but it was enough for us to look at each other with surprise and fear.

After getting Amy back, I was driving along Clementi once again and I noticed something odd about the car that was stopped on the extreme right lane. It didn't seem like it had any trouble and the owner was there just looking at something but didn't seem frustrated that his car had failed him. Passing the car, I realised that another car had somehow landed in the drain between the 2 roads, the bit right under the MRT line. How it got there I've got no idea and I didn't want to stop cos I wouldn't have been any help, and I didn't really know what else I could do since the ambulance was already there. Just passing the scene, I realised that it was just past that area where the car's brakes were grumbling about half an hour ago. That kinda creeped me out and I thought we were just lucky and blessed.

Next incident came about a week later when I was being driven to Vivo City. Everyone seemed to be in a rush to get somewhere and people were basically cutting into each other's paths. Well I was calling my mom when I realised that the car before us had stopped and that the car I was in was still moving, and it just didn't have enough space to stop in time to just make it a small bump. Somehow I just saw everything in slow motion, exactly like the things they do in movies, and all I told myself was to brace for a hard knock, for the airbag to pop in my face, and for me and my friends to end up hurt. Oddly enough, nothing seriously bad happened to anyone in the car, though I still don't know what hit me in the face and chest at the same time. My mom answered the call just as we hit, and all I could tell her was that we just met with one and everyone's alright before ending the call. I was too shocked to say anything more and my chest was also hurting for some odd reason, along with my cheek, and somehow I was more interested trying to figure out how that happened instead of what's going on between the drivers. My friends left the scene to get to Vivo after a little assurance, as well as grumbling that they won't make it if they stayed through the whole thing. Shocking thing was to find out that the damn car didn't even have airbags, and if there was one for the driver, it didn't even work. To think that the front was banged up pretty bad and all that saved us were the damn seatbelts, that wouldn't have worked if it occurred with higher speeds.

Even with the accident, it didn't spoil my plans to go up to KL and it was a good way to build up Mark's confidence level in driving after the previous day's incident. However, I think it actually lowered my confidence in being a passenger.... That issue later.... Once in Melaka, I actually tried my hand at driving one night and almost met with another accident. Thank goodness the other driver was alert and managed to stop in time no to hit me from the side. Yeah, this one was my fault but that didn't stop me from continuing anyway. I got a feeling I scared the shit out of Mark though.

Finally it was the last incident that really got me shaken up. I met up with Amy again after my trip to Malaysia and took a cab back while she opted for a bus. Along the way, I saw the accident at Kampng Bahru about to happen, once again in slow mo. I was in the cab, which was behind the cab involved in the accident. Somehow my driver decided to overtake that cab and I noticed this light coloured car turning at a speed that was a bit too fast and the car didn't seem to be making any effort to stop. All I could do was watch the car and hope that it didn't have a domino effect on the cab I was travelling in. I just saw it roll pass the stop line, where the lights were red ,and it was supposed to stop. Last thing I saw was that car halfway pass the stop line where my cab passes the point where I would have been in serious danger, and that was when I heard the car screeching to a halt. A little to late to stop in time, my cab passed the front end of the other cab just in time to hear the vehicles collide. My driver then just got us out of the way before anything else could happen and I was grateful for that. I wasn't even sure what occurred after the first hit until everything came out in the news the next day.

I got no idea why, but it seems like just before the accident I was in, I didn't like the way Mark was getting a little too close to the other vehicles every time he stopped. Then after the accident, it's like every cab driver seems to be doing almost the same thing and it still doesn't sit well. It's not that I'm scared of being in another accident, and I don't intend to be in anymore, it's just that I don't get why they have to follow so closely like dogs sniffing each other's butt. Or maybe it is just because of the lack of control as I'm not afraid to get behind the wheel of any car... well unless the damn thing has a retarded manual gear and no airbags.. and I know I wouldn't risk driving like that.

Am I turning into a control freak?

Don't Think You're Smarter

It might not take much brains to work in the line that I'm in, or at least the position I'm in but that doesn't mean I'm stupid or don't know what I'm doing. You come in, unable to decide what you want and finally when you do, you can't decide if you want your "tall Latte" sweetened. Then as I go up to make your drink, don't tell me "it's a hot drink you know?". Lastly you tell me to put less milk in it.

First off... the place doesn't have "tall" Lattes, it serves just ONE bloody size Lattes. Look at the menu before you order.

Secondly, my name tag doesn't say "TRAINEE", so don't ask such a dumb question if you don't want to get a bitch slap! If you didn't say "iced" I wouldn't make an iced drink. Plus if you somehow came across a place that made Lattes with cold milk then do tell cos I've never heard of it. How about you specify how hot you want and I'll make it so?

Finally if you wanted a Latte with less milk, take a Flat White. If you want a stronger drink, take a Macchiato. There are choices and there's a menu. Know what you're ordering and don't act the smarty pants u think you are.

SMARTARSE!

Doggy's Day Out (Sentosa to Orchard Road)

We rented a car and decided to give Barkley a treat for the day, bringing him out on his first trip to beyond the neighbourhood. He got all excited for his usual walk in the neighbourhood, but was clearly surprised, and lost, as to what was happening when he was told to get into the car. When he realised he was travelling without having to walk, he got all excited and started to enjoy sticking his head out the window to look at the world going by. Then he realised that there was more going by on the other side of the car and started to jump onto Mark to get a better look. About 10 minutes into the drive, I left him in the back seat where he got comfortable and just lay down to cool off from all his excitement.

Soon, we were in Sentosa and it was time he got to stretch his legs. We took him right up to Imbiah Lookout and let him explore civilisation. There was a guy with the python there charging for photo opportunities and soon enough, Barkley became the free alternative for some Indian tourists. Since he's such a friendly dog, they found it easy to take a picture of the whole family with him as the centre of attention. I wonder what story they'll tell their family and friends back home.

"Oh we went to this island in Singapore called Sentosa, and we took pictures with this dog for free! Imagine that... free... and that guy on the side was actually charging to take pics with a snake. I mean, look at the billions of snakes here, we can just pick one up and take a picture anyway... but a fluffy dog like that? For free??"

Hahaha! And so Barkley waited while I got my coffee fix and then we were off to check out the luge that seem like lotsa fun.

Realising there was nothing much to do at the top there but stare back at the main island, we decided to make it Tanjong Beach and let him run about in the sand, and maybe dip his paws in the water and take a swim. But the sky got dark as we got to the beach and so we decided to chill at the bar instead. Barkley soon made some friends with one of the staff's pets, who were slightly afraid of this whiney, noisy dog.

Barkley easily found a comfy spot on the deck chair and was soon enjoying the cool gentle breeze and shared the plate of fish and chips we ordered. We also ordered a jug of beer and wondered if he liked some. After sniffing my finger, he took a quick lick and neer came back for seconds. However he seemed drunk when I got a picture of him infront of the jug.

After finishing the drinks and food, we decided to get some dessert and Mark suggested something from the Chatterbox. When we got there, we were disappointed with the desserts on display and decided to head back instead. Since the car was parked in Cineleisure, Barkley got his first walk on the bustling Orchard Road walkway with tourists and local shoppers alike. There was just too many people for him to pay attention or try to get the attention from just one person that he was just walking and looking around, excited and again confused.

Finally when we got home, Barkley just plopped himself on the floor and went to bed, absolutely satisfied, and tired, from the whole day.
