What I Want For My Birthday

If you have to ask, the answer is "PEACE & QUIET". Some people just don't seem to understand that I don't have time or enough space in my mind right now to think for them. Honestly I'm turning 25, what do you think I'd want? If you think I want a handphone cover then get me one. It's the bloody thought that counts and not what the gift is. I'd be happy receiving a handkerchief.

I would be super happy, however, if people just stop making me decide for them on things that involve their life. IT'S YOUR LIFE.... Bloody think for yourself, or do u not have a brain? It can be hard making decisions or just plain getting yourself out of bed to do something, but have some consideration if you know that I'm at my breaking point with assignments. One of which was due on my birthday ... How freakin lovely!

Was deciding if I should go for class yesterday and thank goodness I did. Told Amy that we might just get some tips, and tips we got. We go great news that our dateline has been extended, and that there'll be another APA workshop to ensure we have our formatting correct. Bad news and biggest blow to everyone was the fact that wasn't pointed out to us in the first few APA workshops - books published before 2000 CAN NOT BE USED. Now, other than the format and language that we are to use (which the bitch put so much emphasis on), wouldn't that little fact be something of importance to stress on as well? How many books in the library are actually printed in the 21st century? Even with the dateline extension, we still have slightly more than 2 weeks to look for more information since half of the pile we have has to be thrown out, re-organise and re-assess whatever we have done (imagine those who have completed their essays) and simultaneously complete 2 bloody essays.

I told MJ that I wanted to commit suicide, but not by killing myself as a person, but still he freaked. What I meant was just to give up, throw the whole paper out and just take the class all over again the next semester. It's not that I think I can't do it. Well I'm kinda losing my confidence too but.. Nope... it's just that the frustration that has set in after such a blow, along with the frustration some people have been causing me. He's not letting me give up though.. big brother has swooped down to save the day! Because of this, I can't give up, so Amy can't give up too... Hehehehe!

Saw a beautiful red-orange sun setting... just like that ball of fire in me going into hiding as I get all of this out.

Psycho Class

It's been about 5 weeks since Amy and I started Psychology classes and there have been a few people that stand out, be it for good reasons or bad. I've already mentioned a few in a previous post, but now we've given the special ones nicknames. Amy even had her own version of it on her own blog. We'll start off with the few people who were already mentioned in this blog and continue with the new "targets".

First up is the creepy guy who keeps turning around, whom we have given the new nickname "Stripey". The reason being that every week, and every lesson except for today, he has been in one striped shirt or another. (Maybe he realised we were calling him Stripey?) Stripey still looks around class acting as if he is so bloody smart, always trying to tell the class that he is well read and yet gets stumped by simple questions. Another thing we found out about Stripey is that he's quite a proud bugger. Get into the elevator, listens to his music and he doesn't even give a tiny acknowledgement although he knows that you're in the same class. (Oh no u did-nt!) So if he ever tries it's gonna be "talk to the hand... cos the face don't wanna know! Biatch"

The 2nd "victim" in that post was a guy who's name Amy found out because he was loud and can't keep his enthusiasm under control. While we were first referring to him by his name, we decided to give him a better nickname and thus came up with "Flamenco". The reason was firstly his name starting with "F" and ending with a "co" and the other was his dressing. He has a been seen a few times in class wearing t-shirts that have the collar opening up until mid-chest, looking as if he's about to start a Tango sometime soon. It is not as if he has a great body that people would admire and it's a bit too bald to be exposed in such a way. His pimple ridden face doesn't help the "EWWWW" factor either. Flamenco is rather friendly though he just rubbed us the wrong way on the first day.

I've got to mention "Yogi & Boo Boo", the very couple that just continued to eat and didn't flinch when I made my grand entrance (i.e. falling down just as I got past the door) into the classroom. Why the name? Well... Yogi (male) and Boo Boo (female) would come in to class everytime with a picnic basket (pic-a-nik basket?), proceed to their little corner and stuff their faces. Furthermore, one is almost twice as tall as the other and the name suits them to a tee. I don't care if they pig out in class, as I make full use of the vending machine there (might as well get my money's worth of coffee )... It's just them... Yogi just seems rather arrogant and just like another Stripey in the making. Something about his face just makes me want to slap it, while Boo Boo's hair is just calling out to be pulled and snipped off. It's not that I'm against long hair, but sometimes hair just has to be held back so that other people don't get a shock when they turn a corner and think they just saw the witch from Snow White.

Another irritation is almost always late for class, but won't be given the title of the "tardiest person", is the person I'll call "Blocker". He'll sit in the row before us, right in front of Amy, and end up blocking my view because of his height. That's the thing about him that bothers me and I can't really do anything but just listen and use my course notes instead of concentrating on the lecturer. He does have a sleepy look everytime he comes in (looks exactly like the smiley) that makes me feel like shaking him and yelling "Wake UP!" to his face.

The next person on the list is a strange one as we can't seem to pinpoint the gender of this person, whom we will refer to from now as "Courier". The reason for the name was the reminder this person gave us of couriers on motorbikes zipping around town, never leaving their windbreaker behind. Courier got our attention seated right before us, looking like a guy and sounding like one in close proximity. However, Courier looks like a girl when you look at the face and hands, and sounds like one when throwing the voice across the classroom. Courier seems friendly but does have some odd ways of looking at people, as if trying to hide something, maybe the exact same thing we've been questioning.

Now for the nicer people we took note of starting with "Roachy", the lady who sits in the row before us and is afraid of cockroaches. I don't find her irritating or anything but it's just that she reminds me of an ex-lecturer that had an super fake accent. Good thing about her is her enthusiasm in class and not being afraid to voice her questions. She seems quite approachable (just that we didn't bother trying) and appears to be friendly, chatty and funny. Plus she's obviously attentive in class so she might be a target when it comes to borrowing notes....

One girl that I kinda feel bad for is "Latecomer" , who gets a tag that speaks for itself. I think it is the location of her office and the time she is able to get off work that makes her late for every class. Everytime she comes in she would look embarrassed and lost, plus she had already missed about 15 minutes of the lecture. She just has that look that makes you want to pass your notes to her so she could catch up, but the people up front aren't as giving. Well, if she needed she can always ask but I think she might be a genius in disguise. She just has that smarty-pants look about her, like she's destined to be a Psychologist.

Finally, the one and only person who should get the congeniality title for our class, the person we refer to as "Mr Friendly". He was the first person to give me a smile when I stepped into class, and still is the first (and almost only) person to do so whenever anyone steps in. With that kind of simple gesture, it's easy to understand why everyone around him will start a whole conversation that spreads like wildfire. He'll be another target for notes, if there ever is a need.

Now I should start on my assignments instead.

POP 102

First day of class for Principals of Psychology 2 and I went up to the school only to find that my name wasn't even on the list. How organised this place is Finally got my student card after waiting more than a week for it. Filled my name into the list and added Amy's name under mine so she won't panic about not finding it later.

Got to the classroom and made a really great entrance by falling down right before everyone's eyes. Well good thing it was only 4 people and at least 2 showed some form of concern. It obviously didn't only happen to me as one woman was grumbling about the bloody step as well. I warned Amy before she got in and I think she probably would've fell if she wasn't informed. When she came in, I was still flustered about the whole incident and it didn't help that my knee got the whole brunt of the fall. After she came in, we saw a few more people taking tumbles but none as bad as mine. At the same time, we also looked out for familiar faces and Amy was looking for any victims that could be in her list of "attractive guys".

In the end there was this one creepy guy that reminded me of an old school teacher that didn't seem to ever fit in. He's the token creepy oddball that gives you the heebeegeebees. He kept turning around, looking at the people behind him and even the person next to him like he was unsure if he was in the right class. It was as if he was trying to make sure everyone was on the right page. The creepiest thing was the fact that he took a really long time to leave the class at the end, seemingly trying to compete for the "last to leave class" medal with the 2 of us. I mean, most people have already gone out of class while Amy and I were slowly packing our stuff and had to wait for the rest of our row to leave as we were in the corner. He was the 1st person on his row and all alone. I think if we left him alone in there he would've started talking to himself. He's just plain odd I tell ya.

Another person we noted was this boisterous bugger with a curly mop and a face that looked like he didn't bother with hygiene. His sloppy dressing didn't help either. He walked into class as if he was top student in school/Mr Cool in class, even scanned the room to check if he had any competition. Like OMG, puuuuhllleeeeease Bitch! If he wanted to compete, he only had one other person to compete with and it's the other guy with a faceload of pimples too. What really irritated me was when he went out for the break and started lecturing the bunch of guys he was sitting next to. He can say what he wants, but he could've been less of a loudmouth and at least have the decency to notice that the lecturer is in class and that everyone was waiting for them to come in. But NOooooOOOo! He just yaps and yaps and yaps, until the lecturer had to go out and shut his bloody big mouth. I wish he just joins the Wednesday class.

Down the stairs with difficulty again....

Back To School

Last Friday, Amy and I finally got ourselves down to the school to meet up with their senior consultant, Jason. Now this bugger has been sending text messages, calling and emailing Amy ever since we went to the talk and that was about 4 months ago. The reason why we held off so long was because I wanted to get through my driving test first and then plan my life around the class schedules than to work around my driving schedule. On the other hand, Amy wasn't too ready to start classes either. So for the whole time we were stalling, he was pestering her like some desperado. I was always telling Amy how now there is finally someone bugging her now the way she did me.

Before we went down, we were wondering what he looked like and Amy was hoping that he would look rather dishy, but my first thoughts were of a nerdy person who was most likely balding. As it turned out, he was nerdy, no where near dishy, in dire need of a proper tailor but lucky for him, wasn't balding just yet. He looked rather young and acted like a young chap that didn't have any professionalism in him. Using his laptop to show us some information, his MSN buddies were popping out at the corner of the screen. He could have hidden the popping alerts or should've just switched his messenger off instead. I mean it wasn't left on "busy" or "away", his status was "online". Now what if one of his buddies decided to start a conversation right as we were looking at the course outline?

The week before this, Amy kept asking him about payment methods but he seemed to give her the same answer, "Please come down so I can explain it in detail." I think he wanted to check her out too. Anyhoo.... if you have someone asking you about payment methods, don't u think that you should just go straight to that issue? We basically had to go through the whole talk all over again. Another thing I don't get is that why he couldn't just explain about payment methods over the phone. It's not as though you're doing a transfer of money over the phone, and it would be better if we could come down with everything prepared than to have to think if we could afford to pay for the initial down-payment sitting across you.

In the end, we signed up putting in a small deposit for the course that started yesterday, with just the weekend to get everything prepared. What a bloody rush. So class was fun and kept rather light-hearted, even with a heavy content, it didn't help that my concentration was all out of whack that day. Plus the fact that we got seats right at the front of class didn't help as I wasn't used to the close proximity to the board and my focus went loopy too.

But of all things that really got to me with the whole thing about going back to school was actually the bloody stupid receptionist. I don't know what her actually post is but she sits in the counter that greets u when u enter the school, so receptionist she is. So what did this woman do to get herself into my blog? Nothing. Yup, she was rather useless and now every time I see her my hand itches to slap that chubby cheek of hers to wake her up or something. She either is deaf, or she just doesn't understand English, or I'm actually speaking in tongues to her.

Friday was the first time I took note of her. We went in to the school looking for Jason but that bugger was doing some where else. So we told her what we were there for and instead of calling your staff to inform them that their appointment is there, she tells us he a few floors down and to go look for him there. Where exactly down below she didn't say. We stepped out to call that bugger and he tells us to wait at the reception area. So we head back in, tell her that we were told to wait at reception and she stares at us as if waiting there would mean she had to wash our feet for us. The way her eyes just stared back was looking as if we were some desperate celebrity-chasers, hunting for an opportunity with our idol a.k.a. Jason. Like .

So I thought that would be a one off experience with her but I was really wrong and I tried my best to brush her weird ways off but the way she just reacts rubs me the wrong way. We went in yesterday for class and there to greet us was Ms Tard and another lady. The other lady was quick and clear, asked us to sign ourselves in and gave us our course notes. Ms Tard then asks us for our names, so after giving her my name, she asks for my full name, and then proceeds to ask if I'm someone else who's name wasn't even close to mine in the first place. So I tried another time giving her Amy's name which was shorter and much simpler to look for. Even then she changed Amy's name too. GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME! Amy's name is just Amy and her surname, how wrong can you go with just 2 names to look for? Mine isn't some common name either and I don't know how it turned to some Chinese-sounding one. In the end she told us that we would be getting our cards the following week.

That wasn't the last of her... Oh noooooooo! Jason had to pass us our receipts and told us that he would leave it at the reception counter if he didn't see us. So after class we went there and I wanted to make sure that someone knew we were the intended recipients of the two envelopes on the counter (addressed to us) instead of just taking them away. Unlucky me got her attention and I just wanted to let her know that I was going to take the two envelopes, but Ms Tard doesn't seem to understand that and I just basically took the envelopes, waved it infront of her, point out to her that my name was on it and I'm taking away, talking to her with so much gestures as if she was a 5 year old kid. It's a bloody chore talking to her and I think she'll be the death of me one day, that's if I don't kill her first.

Drving Me Up The Wall

Learning to drive can be rather intimidating and it doesn't help that some of the instructors just make you nervous or piss you off. If I was slightly younger I think I would have given up and chucked the whole thing aside, not needing the extra frustration it caused.

Of all the instructors (so far it's 8) I've practiced with, I realise there is a particular one that really just puts me off balance. Sadly, he seems to be one of the 2 I keep getting from the whole list of names. I don't know why, but it's like this weird, very agitated vibe coming off him that kinda rubs off on me and then I start to get agitated myself, get tense and lose concentration. When you got that feeling, it just doesn't help with you trying to make sure that you're doing the right step, getting turns at the right timing and not knock things down. Even at the stage of revision, he somehow still wants to tell you what to do and it's uncomfortable because it's not a positioning I am already comfortable with. As soon as I start, I'm all tense and after one mistake it all goes down the hole.

Just like what happened with the grumpy old man which I haven't got again. The grumpy old man had that same frustrated vibe, spoke like a mouse when giving instructions but kept grumbling loudly that I braked "too hard", and the feng you application didn't help either. Well something got the better of me and somehow I managed to bump into the car infront , re-adjusting it's bumper which just needed another bump to put back. That time he turned and asked if I didn't brake enough. I honestly don't know the answer until now as instructors have a brake pedal on their side to stop accidents like that from happening and somehow with both of us depressing the brake, the car didn't stop in time. Mind you, this happened in the circuit, which has a top speed of like 25km/h. Well anyway as the day wore on, he still was relentless about me braking too hard and finally when we got to the end of the lesson, the bugger had the cheek to ask me fill a courtesy survey for him. Blah... He was lucky I wasn't feeling mean and the accident somehow made me feel better. Not that accidents are fun but the fact that once you've been in one, even so minor, you learn and grow from it. So with the good "grades" I gave for that little courtesy survey, he's acting like my best friend, or maybe he's glad he didn't get me as the student. If so, the feeling's mutual.

Of the 8, there are 3 who are in the mid-range that would give you a bit of the heebeejeebees... that little bit of creepiness that they might just shock you any minute with a sudden burst of energy or something. They just sit in their seat, rather quiet and don't say much except for the instructions as to where to turn and all. Then they'll stop and tell you all you've done wrong and make u think, "Did I do that? When? Where?" . I guess this does have a + point of getting you prepared for the final test, when the TP will just sit next to you all quiet and stiff, and finally when you get back into the circuit, give you the results, making you think, "Did I do that? When? Where?" .

Finally the top 3, 2 of which I don't think I'll ever have the chance to practice with ever again. One was my very first instructor who thought me the basics and made it all quite light and simple so that the whole thing didn't just scare me away from driving altogether. In fact the lesson was fun, although from any by-stander's view, it looked rather stupid going forward and reversing for 15 minutes, followed by going round in circles. That's not the only stupid-looking thing you do in this whole learning process though.

The other one would be the 2nd auto-car instructor who talked a lot but taught a lot too. I honestly can't remember half the mundane things most of the instructors tell me but this guy seemed to tell me a lot of interesting tales that he experienced on his job. If he told everyone what he told me, then he would be giving some glimmer of hope to those that are not sure of themselves. The best thing about him was that he pointed out the proper safety techniques, and the reasons why we have to look at certain places. Knowing why I have to do it is one big bonus as it reminds you that you have to look out. Previously when I didn't know, I didn't bother looking, and half the time I was looking at the wrong place anyway. He also gave really good tips for judgement, making some things easier to do, and less of a chore. But with an auto-car, everything seems less of a chore.

The last one I will comment about is the craziest one of all. He labelled himself the "Ah-Beng Instructor" and, yes, he totally lives up to the name. On the first lesson I had with him, he kept shouting "SPEEEEEED!" which made me laugh more than actually pick up my speed. He would start singing Hokkien songs, making fun of other instructors and their trainees, shouting at old ladies who cross the road to slow (quite deafening in the car with the windows up), and point out the weird things people wear with regards to making me look out for people about to cross at zebra-crossings. There was even a time he pretended to sleep (????), another lesson he whipped out a radio and started tuning in to one of the stations which played one of that Crazy Frog's songs. So far he's the only one who has made me laugh the whole lesson, and if someone was watching they'd be wondering why I'm laughing and smiling away when the rest of the trainees seem to be frowning or concentrating really hard. The whole point, in the end, is that I'm relaxed and at ease with the whole lesson, which makes it a lot more enjoyable.

Wonder If I'll Get A New One To Rant About Soon...
