Pictures I Lost Last Year

Yesterday, as it has been for a few years, my uncle invited us to one of the dinners organised by the temple, held in conjunction with a noisy auction. It's rather hard not to miss when it's held behind a huge wall that looks like a castle, bright lights, huge flags, and a Chinese opera playing out next to it. Last year, smart little me accidentally deleted all the photos before I could even upload them anywhere. Well not this year!

This year was slightly different than the past few, the tent was much bigger, but the tables seem to shrink, and it was in a totally different location. My 2 cousins took a ride with us to the location and amazingly didn't start their nonsense until much later. Ian, usually cranky when tired, actually was cheerful enough to pose for a few photos, especially happy when posing with his toy puppy. I got a feeling it's all the bubbles in the orange soda he drank that got him to lighten up. I would never get my Coke Light... so I ended downing glass after glass of Iced Chinese Tea. What a joke! Even bigger joke was when I asked for Chinese tea in English and she told me in Mandarin that they don't have it but they have exactly the same thing, only known to her as "zhong guo cha". I didn't know if I should laugh or cry then as I knew I had to start yapping in Mandarin to them the whole night to make sure that I get an iced tea and not some hot stuff that burns my tongue.

Anyway, it started around 8.30 together with the auction, making people bid ridiculous rates for mundane things like a bicycle. When I say different, even the food this year was different, it's the same caterer, it's always catered by my grandfather's neighbour. Anyhoo... it usually starts with hot steaming buns, but this year the first dish was actually the one that usually came out at the end, the noodles. The noodles looked really plain and simple yet tasted really good, must have been the leeks in it that added to the flavour, something which my mom, unfortunately, could not taste.

Somehow, the arrival of the next dish depended on the auction, if they think it's going well, the next dish is served up rather fast, and if they needed to stretch it out, we kinda go hungry. The next dish however, marked the arrival of the Guest-of-Honour, one of Singapore's MPs with a long name. Ian was considering going over to grab a few prawns off their plate when they got up to greet her but he was a little too shy. So 2nd dish was my fave among all the Chinese dinner dishes, the cold dish that's a platter of assorted yummies.

Eventually the food is served rather quickly, possibly due to the presence of the VIP, but portions this year seem to have shrunk. Well, doesn't really matter when u have quite a few different dishes to go through.

Oddly, it seemed to stop there and the auction was going really fast as they were running out of time. When the plates arrived, it gave a few of us quite a shock as it was something new, and some of us were almost full, waiting for dessert. Well, more buns for me then.

Quite a few people didn't bother to stay for dessert and left but they definitely didn't miss anything special.

Went home satisfied and a little deaf.

Spill The Beans

After a certain comment, Amy keeps asking if it would be better to let all your problems out or keep it all in. Her question makes me wonder if it's better just to have a balance of both. Guess it really depends on the person and how they handle their problems. I know some, including Amy, who pours almost every drop out, and I know those who just ask for opinions till they figure out within themselves.

I personally am not one to pour everything out from my jug to anyone and everyone, nor do I really ask for advise, making Mark and her think that I keep every damn thing inside to brew. Then again, when anything troubles me, I seem to either find a solution or let it all out on this. Somehow I'm just lucky enough to find answers at the right time, although I may realise some disguised blessings a little later than I should. Then as Amy also pointed out, my mom will probably be the only one who knows all my crap. What I can honestly say is that my mom doesn't.

Not every little thing.

I guess there are still things that should be kept within oneself, but it seems like, between the 3 of us, that seems to be strictly my opinion. Though thinking about it more, I don't know what exactly I should be telling. Another thing is, you've got a mouth, you've got a brain (I give u that much) ... You wanna know? ASK. So maybe I need prompting, but I never stopped anyone from asking... (tell me if I did.) I might have tried to avoid a question or two, but tell me who hasn't actually done that in their entire life?

Guess now if you want to know more about me, or from me, shoot that question out your mouth, and most possibly you'll get an answer shot out from mine.

Free & Easy

After a really stressful month, I'm finally free from all the issues that held me down, that diverted my attention from everyday life, and from the people around me. I realised that people have told me things, or I've told them things, during that period of time, and I seem to remember them very vaguely. Worst of all, right when the assignments were due (or so I thought), my body got attacked by that menacing stomach virus, creating more problems. Now that I'm done with all the datelines and tests, I'm still left picking up some pieces, as well as starting anew on other aspects of life.

Soon all the problems faced in class with the essays will start again, but it'll be different this time since we at least know what we should be looking for. Unlike the last semester, where we were basically going into the library like 2 mountain tortoises, walking around slow and totally at a lost with what we were supposed to do. One thing though, Amy and I gave up on AP102, deciding that it would be a better option to just try it all over again instead of cracking our heads to finish the 2nd essay. Rather good choice, as it left me sometime to explore myself before the next term, which I haven't done in a while.

Certified At Last

Went for my 2nd attempt at the driving test today. Was nervous as usual, but not as bad as my first. I was rather pissed off the day before, after my final lesson, because of cyclists and traffic lights. I got no idea why but it so happened yesterday that every time I was approaching a junction, the lights would turn orange just as I have slightly more than 1 car's length to stop, and therefore it meant that I had enough time to stop and should. Hit the brakes real hard in that similar situation about 3 times, until the instructor actually started snickering when here I am fuming. Another thing that pissed me off was a cyclist. Like in my earlier post, I was already fed up with them and here was one more taking his own sweet time to cycle at the side of the road, wobbling towards the middle. Honestly, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST CYCLE ON THE PAVEMENT??? Trying not to kill him, keeping rules in check and trying to drive at the same time nearly cause an accident itself. If it gets down to that I won't have pity for the cyclist. HELL NO! I was so frustrated with these buggers that I somehow aimed to hit the pedestrian crossing at the entrance to the school's circuit. My instructor said I made a late turning and it was too wide, but later on I realised that I was actually aiming to hit her. That's apparently how mad I was at the world yesterday and I totally didn't need stupid people like them bothering me during my test.

During the warm-up session I was driving as slow as a cow, even the car seemed to MoOoO! Then the butterflies and shaky leg came back to haunt me. Worst of all was the balloting session, somehow I knew when I looked at the board when my slip would be picked. As I guessed, I ended up with the tester coined 'The Terminator' and I knew for sure I'd fail again. I just started thinking that I'd have to fork out another $500 and wait till next year or something to retake the test.

Well, Terminator called my name and asked me to go ahead and start the car and crap. Once he came in, he cracked his neck and told me to go as if he already said I could start. Then all the way he nagged about how I should know to get around hazards and stuff. He was rather simple though, letting me choose and make most decisions but the nagging was enough to kill you. Going out to the road, he changed my test route and basically had to just turn where he liked. It was going alright until I reached the traffic light and, lo and behold, IT happened. 2 car lengths and it turns orange. Slammed on the breaks and stopped the car right before the white line, causing Terminator's things to slide and drop everywhere. I totally didn't want to look at his face at that moment. Worst part was that he didn't nag or say a thing about it and that was more irritating than him actually nagging. Then after 3 turns, he said "ok, turn left and go back to circuit". Heart sank, head thought "what did I do wrong now?"

Up the stairs and into the room, he starts by saying "you know what are your problems and weaknesses?" I honestly feel small next to him. He then goes on nagging about what I did wrong, and I just thought "just tell me I failed already and stop nagging to spoil the rest of my day". Shocks of all shocks, he finished his lecture, turns the paper around, writes 18 points and striked off the 'failed' mark, ticking the 'passed'. I was in so much shock I didn't know what to do and gave a small squeaky "thank you" and kinda whooshed out the room.

So anyone who has a p-plate they could lend me for a year I wouldn't mind taking it off ur hands. Heheheehe

Happy Freakin Birthday

Well as I expected, I didn't get what I want, and I can say it was the total opposite of what I was hoping for.

Started out at 3am when I gave up editing my essay because of tiredness and wanted to sleep. And did I get a good sleep? Nooooo.... I tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable, eyes sealed shut from tiredness, but my brain was racing about things in the coming 2 weeks. My head then starts to heat up as if I'm about to spit fire and my body is too bloody tired to get out of bed to take a shower. Finally, somehow, I got tired enough and fell asleep around 4am I think.

Later at 10am, my mom comes back to find the door latched and has to wake me up by calling me. So, yeah, this was my fault but she couldn't just call and tell me to open the door when I answered the phone. Nooooo.... Well I rejected the 1st call and I picked up the 2nd one. It was 10am in the morning and it didn't click in my mind that she couldn't get in. Pick up the 2nd call to find no one on the other end, and here I am getting pissed off that she didn't lock her phone and it's going off while she's walking (happened before so don't think it's impossible). 3rd call comes in and I'm greeted by a loud shout through the window and through the phone at the same time. Talk about a wake up call. Trudged out of bed, un-latched the door and went back to bed angry, and fell back to sleep.

My alarm then goes off about 2 hours later, yelling out to remind me that I had to get my butt to BBDC to practice my driving. Either I go or I waste my money, so I went and I think I shouldn't have. If the instructor almost having an accident with the bus wasn't enough of a bad sign, I don't know what was. The road conditions seemed to be crap today. Decisions had to be made and it seemed like almost every one I made was a bad one. That or it was people, on legs or vehicles, that wanted to get injured or killed by me. Maybe they were testing my patience, maybe testing my reaction time. I mean if it's your right of way, bloody cross the road, don't do the hokey pokey (put ur right foot in, put ur right foot out...) at the curb. If you're crossing you're grandfather's road can you do it a little faster unless you're old and have osteoporosis? What I really want to know is why some cyclist can't just ride on the pavement? Hello... it's not exactly the safest road to ride on with the L plates running about. Another thing is if u insist on cycling on the bloody road, stick to the fuckin side and not go zig-zagging in the middle of it. If you're riding a motorbike, can you please look who is behind you before you just decide to wobble off and brake suddenly to do a u-turn in the middle of the road? It's good I'm just learning or I'd wind the window down and flipped you the bird.

Best part of the whole lesson was driving back to school like a mad woman and parking the car to end the lesson. Felt damn good racing back, no competition on the slope up, and just turning in to park like it was my own carpark.

Good news was that psych classes were cancelled and that I had more time to do the damn essay. Seemed like the only good news of the day. Was hoping I could get Amy out but I think the haze deterred her. On my way back, I get a call from MJ. Felt bad talking to him with my disappointed and deflated attitude while he was trying his best to lift my confidence up. It was good hearing him happy with his new toy though. Got back and attended to my fish, which felt rather good, especially when I added the pretty plants into the tanks. Though I still hate that the mollies that just make babies like rabbits. Anyway, just more food for the terrapin then.

Went out with mom to Ikea later and hogged a table for dinner, followed with organising my essay (yeah, back to that shit again) information. What so bad about that? The food. Here I was glad that they had laksa as their local dish of the day. How good it was to find out that there was bloody milk in the dish. If you're stupid enough to think that I didn't know there was coconut milk in it, you probably have a coconut for ur head. The milk didn't take effect immediately, thank goodness, but I doubt I'm going to have a good sleep tonight either.

Breaking point was when a couple came along and they just had the most horrible table etiquette. I don't feel you have to know how to hold your fork and all, but they ate like bloody pigs. One was slurping every mouthful of food/drink and then tried to be posh by dissecting the chicken wing with a fork and spoon. The other just gobbled everything down, and kinda vacuumed the meat off the bones on the chicken wing. Just put the whole thing in the mouth and suck it right off, oil on the lips and fingers. Well at least there was that bit of decency to wash up after. In between they were conversing about the most boring shit ever. I really don't get them, and they didn't even have the courtesy to clear their crap after. Heck! I moved my shit so u can plonk ur butt down, interrupt my work, bore me to death and then u leave ur crap for me to look at. DAMN YOU!

Great!
Just fuckin great!

What I Want For My Birthday

If you have to ask, the answer is "PEACE & QUIET". Some people just don't seem to understand that I don't have time or enough space in my mind right now to think for them. Honestly I'm turning 25, what do you think I'd want? If you think I want a handphone cover then get me one. It's the bloody thought that counts and not what the gift is. I'd be happy receiving a handkerchief.

I would be super happy, however, if people just stop making me decide for them on things that involve their life. IT'S YOUR LIFE.... Bloody think for yourself, or do u not have a brain? It can be hard making decisions or just plain getting yourself out of bed to do something, but have some consideration if you know that I'm at my breaking point with assignments. One of which was due on my birthday ... How freakin lovely!

Was deciding if I should go for class yesterday and thank goodness I did. Told Amy that we might just get some tips, and tips we got. We go great news that our dateline has been extended, and that there'll be another APA workshop to ensure we have our formatting correct. Bad news and biggest blow to everyone was the fact that wasn't pointed out to us in the first few APA workshops - books published before 2000 CAN NOT BE USED. Now, other than the format and language that we are to use (which the bitch put so much emphasis on), wouldn't that little fact be something of importance to stress on as well? How many books in the library are actually printed in the 21st century? Even with the dateline extension, we still have slightly more than 2 weeks to look for more information since half of the pile we have has to be thrown out, re-organise and re-assess whatever we have done (imagine those who have completed their essays) and simultaneously complete 2 bloody essays.

I told MJ that I wanted to commit suicide, but not by killing myself as a person, but still he freaked. What I meant was just to give up, throw the whole paper out and just take the class all over again the next semester. It's not that I think I can't do it. Well I'm kinda losing my confidence too but.. Nope... it's just that the frustration that has set in after such a blow, along with the frustration some people have been causing me. He's not letting me give up though.. big brother has swooped down to save the day! Because of this, I can't give up, so Amy can't give up too... Hehehehe!

Saw a beautiful red-orange sun setting... just like that ball of fire in me going into hiding as I get all of this out.

Martha a.k.a. MARK

The very first time I saw this bugger was when he came to deliver stock and he looked really pissed off. He didn't smile one bit and his eyes were hidden behind reflective shades. My first thought was that he was mean and nasty, and if he tried that on us, he'd be in for more crap from our side.

Funny how first impressions seem to make the worst evaluations, and it didn't take long for me to figure that out with this fella.

The first time I actually got to know him was when he was scheduled to deliver one evening and was running slightly late. As the others had appointments to keep, I stayed back and waited for the delivery. When everything was settled, I took the opportunity to ask for a lift back to C'wealth MRT station. Since it was on the way (I hope that was the reason and not that he felt oblidged) and he agreed. During the whole trip, we didn't talk much (hello, my name is... my name is... slim shady), but I realised I liked his driving as I was busy SMSing yet didn't get woozy. He still says that I was afraid the first few times because I held on to the door handle, but THAT WAS JUST A HABIT! - formed because of the crazy driving by certain taxi drivers.

So I got posted to the main outlet, where he worked out of, and that's how it all blew up into a friendship that people seem to question. Hello... 21st century.... don't you think a girl and a guy can have a platonic relationship? Actually the people who question it are usually the type who go around falling for any Tom, Dick or Mary they meet/work with. (I hear a big MOOO!) Furthermore, he was in a relationship then and I don't know how some can go around creating trouble in other peoples' relationships. (I visualise hair flicking around to reggae music) Anyhoo, the move made it easy for us to make it to work, saving money sharing transport, and then much more money later. The hours we had to spend at work meant that we had quite a bit of time to talk, gossip, gripe and scheme. Mwuahahahaha!

Now why has this bugger made it on the list? He's nuts. Well, he is, but the main thing, as I finally realised, is that he's a compliment.

Kuka

Another person that I initially did not like during the 1st semester of school in Shatec. The whole reason was that she went to class and secretly read a novel under her table. Well I just felt that if she wasn't there to study and concentrate on the class, she could've given someone else that chance. I was actually closer to the girl sitting next to her, the one right before me, who ended up as the middleperson once again. This time, the middleperson didn't seem to bother keeping in touch unlike Yo.

Back to Sudha... She was a whiney and dramatic girl who wanted to break out of her traditional Indian roots, badly. She wasn't exactly a rebel but she tried her best to be. This didn't really give me a better impression, and the project we did together didn't help my initial thought about her not being interested in the course. One thing that we will never forget is that we started the whole course on her birthday and basically every year ahead started out around there. We got closer during the second year, because of group projects although we were actually seperated into different groups and sessions for most lessons. Eventually her 19th birthday was spent at a pub called De Javu as the owner was a close friend of my dad. From that time, maybe it was the drinking and the music instead, we got closer while the middleperson drifted away as she found another life with her, then future, husband.

There was one night that will always be etched in my mind and it's the very day we ended our work attachment. Happy that our lives were no longer stuck to the crappy hotels, we went out clubbing and someone decided to get really drunk. It's situations like this that u find out who are the people you can really trust and count on and the ones that basically get in the way and are plain useless. Well it's neither her nor me that I'm talking about here.

Anyway, long story short, clubbing lead to her meeting her husband and now they're both living in the US, too far away to just sit down and have a coffee with. Thank goodness I don't have to keep that secret from her parents anymore. She still pisses me off though ... doesn't know how to reply emails.

When are ya comin back?

Psycho Class

It's been about 5 weeks since Amy and I started Psychology classes and there have been a few people that stand out, be it for good reasons or bad. I've already mentioned a few in a previous post, but now we've given the special ones nicknames. Amy even had her own version of it on her own blog. We'll start off with the few people who were already mentioned in this blog and continue with the new "targets".

First up is the creepy guy who keeps turning around, whom we have given the new nickname "Stripey". The reason being that every week, and every lesson except for today, he has been in one striped shirt or another. (Maybe he realised we were calling him Stripey?) Stripey still looks around class acting as if he is so bloody smart, always trying to tell the class that he is well read and yet gets stumped by simple questions. Another thing we found out about Stripey is that he's quite a proud bugger. Get into the elevator, listens to his music and he doesn't even give a tiny acknowledgement although he knows that you're in the same class. (Oh no u did-nt!) So if he ever tries it's gonna be "talk to the hand... cos the face don't wanna know! Biatch"

The 2nd "victim" in that post was a guy who's name Amy found out because he was loud and can't keep his enthusiasm under control. While we were first referring to him by his name, we decided to give him a better nickname and thus came up with "Flamenco". The reason was firstly his name starting with "F" and ending with a "co" and the other was his dressing. He has a been seen a few times in class wearing t-shirts that have the collar opening up until mid-chest, looking as if he's about to start a Tango sometime soon. It is not as if he has a great body that people would admire and it's a bit too bald to be exposed in such a way. His pimple ridden face doesn't help the "EWWWW" factor either. Flamenco is rather friendly though he just rubbed us the wrong way on the first day.

I've got to mention "Yogi & Boo Boo", the very couple that just continued to eat and didn't flinch when I made my grand entrance (i.e. falling down just as I got past the door) into the classroom. Why the name? Well... Yogi (male) and Boo Boo (female) would come in to class everytime with a picnic basket (pic-a-nik basket?), proceed to their little corner and stuff their faces. Furthermore, one is almost twice as tall as the other and the name suits them to a tee. I don't care if they pig out in class, as I make full use of the vending machine there (might as well get my money's worth of coffee )... It's just them... Yogi just seems rather arrogant and just like another Stripey in the making. Something about his face just makes me want to slap it, while Boo Boo's hair is just calling out to be pulled and snipped off. It's not that I'm against long hair, but sometimes hair just has to be held back so that other people don't get a shock when they turn a corner and think they just saw the witch from Snow White.

Another irritation is almost always late for class, but won't be given the title of the "tardiest person", is the person I'll call "Blocker". He'll sit in the row before us, right in front of Amy, and end up blocking my view because of his height. That's the thing about him that bothers me and I can't really do anything but just listen and use my course notes instead of concentrating on the lecturer. He does have a sleepy look everytime he comes in (looks exactly like the smiley) that makes me feel like shaking him and yelling "Wake UP!" to his face.

The next person on the list is a strange one as we can't seem to pinpoint the gender of this person, whom we will refer to from now as "Courier". The reason for the name was the reminder this person gave us of couriers on motorbikes zipping around town, never leaving their windbreaker behind. Courier got our attention seated right before us, looking like a guy and sounding like one in close proximity. However, Courier looks like a girl when you look at the face and hands, and sounds like one when throwing the voice across the classroom. Courier seems friendly but does have some odd ways of looking at people, as if trying to hide something, maybe the exact same thing we've been questioning.

Now for the nicer people we took note of starting with "Roachy", the lady who sits in the row before us and is afraid of cockroaches. I don't find her irritating or anything but it's just that she reminds me of an ex-lecturer that had an super fake accent. Good thing about her is her enthusiasm in class and not being afraid to voice her questions. She seems quite approachable (just that we didn't bother trying) and appears to be friendly, chatty and funny. Plus she's obviously attentive in class so she might be a target when it comes to borrowing notes....

One girl that I kinda feel bad for is "Latecomer" , who gets a tag that speaks for itself. I think it is the location of her office and the time she is able to get off work that makes her late for every class. Everytime she comes in she would look embarrassed and lost, plus she had already missed about 15 minutes of the lecture. She just has that look that makes you want to pass your notes to her so she could catch up, but the people up front aren't as giving. Well, if she needed she can always ask but I think she might be a genius in disguise. She just has that smarty-pants look about her, like she's destined to be a Psychologist.

Finally, the one and only person who should get the congeniality title for our class, the person we refer to as "Mr Friendly". He was the first person to give me a smile when I stepped into class, and still is the first (and almost only) person to do so whenever anyone steps in. With that kind of simple gesture, it's easy to understand why everyone around him will start a whole conversation that spreads like wildfire. He'll be another target for notes, if there ever is a need.

Now I should start on my assignments instead.

Drama In The Cinema

Went out to Comex yesterday and didn't see much that got me interested except for the going price of Ipods. My 3rd generation 20Gb Ipod had cost more than what the 4th generation 60Gb Ipod is now selling for. Furthermore, there are a few freebies to choose from that's just simply making my hands itch.

Later, I met up with MJ and decided to check it out further at the Apple store, plus secretly make him yearn for it too! Fast forward to the point where we were bored and didn't have anything interesting to do @ Orchard. We were considering watching movies right from the start but didn't have any movie that really called out to us. In the end, we still ended up at Cineleisure and got tickets for Monster House. We were hoping for Barnyard but they didn't have one listed during that time of the night.

Finally we got into the theatre where it seems that we're not the only adults who watch cartoons (or animations since some people are prissy about it). As I was getting comfy, I noticed that the person behind me seems to either have super long legs or just can't sit still. It felt as though that bugger was kicking and pressing their feet against my chair, making me rock throughout the show. To make matters worse, the bugger's mouth couldn't stop "whispering" either. I was enduring the shit from the person behind and I think the person on my left also had that problem. Possibly she had the same thought I had that we'll just let these arseholes slide and not waste the money we had paid for the movie.

Well soon enough, someone (Poker) couldn't tolerate them any longer and asked them to keep quiet. These buggers still had the gall to raise their voice and argue back, even said something like that they had the right to talk loudly. Thank goodness my dad wasn't there. The argument somehow led to one person whacking the other for poking them in the eye (or so they claim), and the commotion just made everyone turn back to look. I was hoping that the usher would come in and get them out but then the woman (Screamer) just screamed for her husband (Slapper) to sit and calm down. Slapper kept asking the Poker if he wanted to bring the matter up with the police but Screamer just ask him to zip it and watch the movie. In the end, Poker went out and called the police, which came about 10 minutes later into the theatre to escort Slapper & Screamer out. During the whole time Poker was out, Slapper kept grumbling that he ought to sue Poker for poking him.

Can you say childish?

Slapper: "Mooooomeeeeeeee he poke me...See! See! I don't friend him already!"

Poker: "Maaaaaaa! He beat me... I don't want to friend him!"

I hope they get charged with something for disturbing MY peace!

Price Of Beauty, Cost Your Health

I don't understand why some people want to go on crash diets just to look slim for photos, especially their wedding photos. I understand you want to look your best, but is starving yourself just to look good for that few days worth it when you end up ballooning the rest of your life after? If every wife-to-be wrote down their thoughts and plans to work to before their wedding day, most of them would have the entry:

Lose XXkg by wedding photo session

Lose another XXkg before wedding day

The worst part of all this is the fact that the people who do this are walking lollipops with imaginary blubber that's on a non-existent butt or the ever-dreaded TUMMY. (*dang dang dang*)

The whole point - Why make it all a lie? You basically start your new life (with your partner) on a lie with the image you portray. Would you actually stay that size and shape?

If it's a yes -
Why didn't you stay that size and shape before?
If it's a no -
Why bother in the first place?

Is losing that little bit of weight actually going to make you look more beautiful than you are now? What makes the girl look good is the tons of make-up, hair styling, special clothes and the great invention of air-brushing. Have you actually ever seen a girl who has bad acne show any signs of it in her wedding photo?

The other part I don't get is why some want to stifle your body's craving when you actually don't have to restrict your diet. Here I am on a really restricted one, and I think it's giving me more stress than the thought that I could end up an invalid in the future. Having to go around reading food labels so that I know the crap that's in it gets me irritated but I'd have to do it or face bloody consequences. Worst of all is having to find food, when I'm out, that would fit into the restrictions. The whole stress from that is actually killing me softly.

This then makes me wonder how some people can count the calories they take and restrict their diet when there isn't a real need to. Why can't you just enjoy what you can? I'm not saying that you should eat a ton of everything but just simply not think about numbers and enjoy what has been placed on your dinner plate. Eventually what you may think is beautiful turns out to be the "unwrapped mummified skeleton" look, which in turn is actually showing how dead you truly are on the inside.

In the end, is it actually all worth it? Trying to look your slimmest on your wedding day while you look like a balloon after? Sucking in your stomach and starving the whole day when cameras are clicking away? Looking like a walking skeleton, calculating the amount of bird seeds you can eat for the day? Controlling your diet when you eventually might get cancer or lose a kidney?

Life is too bloody short and I find it dumb to go through all that crap to just SEEM beautiful on just one day. If the person you're going to marry cares more for how you look on the outside than the person under that external shell, then it really isn't worth the hassle.

Mispronunciation

I was listening to the radio for a few days and there was a song that came on that got my attention as it didn't make sense. Not as if songs these days make much sense but the line I heard was out of this world. The line that stumped me was :

"All the camels coming out for a private buffet"

If anyone can guess where the line came from before I give out the title of the song, then I guess I'm not the only one who misheard it.

For almost a week I was wondering what the title of the song was and who actually sang it. From the singer's voice you could roughly guess who it was but something just didn't click in me to look up the song online. A week passed and I was looking for a certain music video when I finally got to watch the video for this particular song right after. Even after finding out the whole gist of the "Public Affair" and what the lyrics were, I still heard the song and couldn't make out the proper lyrics, especially the chorus. I don't know if it's singers who sing so fast they don't realise that their words sound totally different or is it me.

Then came another song which had an Asian twist to it, "Tokyo Drift" by the Teriyaki Boyz. Part of the chorus is

"fast and furious (drift, drift, drift)"

but what I'm hearing is

"fas n foo-wee-ous dip dip dip"

Talking To Gods

Some may have heard that I don't intend to have a religion and can't be bothered with people who try to convert me. Well this doesn't have anything to do with it but it is talking to Gods if you're open-minded enough to accept that.

Yesterday's little experience was all thanks to Amy, and she wanting to help me with my diabetes. She had been telling me about her own experience and I had always wondered what they actually did. So when she asked if I was interested in joining her, I took up the opportunity to quench my thirst for knowledge and ended up getting to know myself better.

There were actually 3 people who were mediums to 3 different Gods of the Underworld. 2 that gave a general insight to you and 1 who was more specific to health related issues. We only consulted 2 of the 3 as Amy wasn't fond of the 2nd God, Li Ya Pek, who seemed really fierce. While we were consulting the 1st God, the Li Ya Pek one seemed to be giving this one man a long lecture about something. Since everything was in Hokkien or Mandarin, I didn't catch a word of what went on. Plus the chanting behind me was drowning out everything everyone was saying.

When we first entered the place it looked rather creepy with the whole area that the Gods were in lighted only by candles, and from the bit of light coming from the other room, and chanting going on in the background. Funny how it looked like something out of Incredible Tales but it didn't feel creepy. I just seemed to be in exploration mode, wondering what everything was all about.

Finally when it got to our turn we had to first go to the 1st God, referred to as Da Ya Pek. He would take a reading of you though a fan (well it looked like a really tattered fan) that he would place on you. They all had an abacus placed right before them that seemed to help them add you up, or maybe it was a keyboard to some computer that dug up your file in their plane. Anyway, when it was my turn, I gave my basic details and got the fan placed on my head... for a really long time too. I was wondering what messages were being sent through but all I could really think of was that my eyes were smarting from the smoke in that room. After flicking the abacus beads around, he gave some advice which was translated to me by Amy as well as the assistant that stood by him. The assistant tried his best to translate it all in English and even wrote some instructions down on in simple English that Amy found rather amusing. I was told to consult the 3rd God for the health questions and was even warned that I might be in pain for the next few days but it would be normal.

We then waited a while for our turn to consult San Ya Pek, or the 3rd God. Amy had been telling me that the 3rd God's massages were really painful and it sometimes made her feel faint. When I was called in for my little consultation, I was basically lost without Amy helping to translate my queries. Thankfully there was an English speaking helper to helped me out till Amy managed to compose herself and resume translator duties. As Da Ya Pek did earlier, there was some flicking of the abacus beads and the diagnosis was given, with instructions to what I should do, as well as tell me that she'll be giving me foot reflexology. Sounded really cool but then after the warnings I think I braced myself up for an excruciating massage. Somehow the massage didn't hurt so much that I wanted to faint, but there were a few strokes that hurt really bad and one even made my leg jerk. Amy was amazed I could tolerate the pain. Throughout the whole massage, she was telling me what to change in my diet and it was interesting how it covered what my GP told me, and even had a few extra tit-bits that I wasn't aware of.

When we were done, we went down and Amy gave me a summary of all the instructions and information given to me. Somehow I now kinda see myself as a water balloon because of the fact that I'm retaining water and had a lot of "wind" in my system that is the cause of my size. The massage has left me in pain though, starting with one particular spot in my lower leg that pops with every step. The rest of the body seems to tingle and spots of pain seem to travel all over, dying in one place and starting in another.

Now I wonder what else I have in store for me.
