Reflections

Seems like some people never change. It's been a year since I left the place, and still the attitudes of the staff there have not changed. Not only are they still taking their own sweet time to get things done, they still take things, and people, for granted.

While bitching to my other close friends about what happened, Adi mentioned something that hit the nail on the head. Not to mention, the very same thing was broadcast on the show Undercover Boss - that the "attitudes of the staff are a reflection of the manager's". Which, looking at the attitudes of staff from different outlets, you do realise that they do tend to follow the manager's quite a bit.

After helping out at a few outlets, I realized that there's one outlet that have almost crazy staff now that the manager is also a big joker, while they were a bit more uptight with rules under the previous one. Then there is another outlet's staff that are rather laid back, chatty and easy going, even when the place is fully packed and busy. Somehow their attitudes also seem to rub off on their customers as well.

Then comes this one outlet, and the reason why there's no change or improvement goes back to the manager. It was probably why I wanted out of that place because if you can't change what is bringing you down, then you have to leave! So since staff there can't be bothered to improve themselves, or work harder, or try to speed up their service. Basically, they're cocky - thinking they're the best, that their efforts are always good enough. When there's feedback, they don't even see that it's a problem with them and rather think that the customers are all impatient and bitchy.

Yes there are times when the customers are just pissy about everything, but if you actually listen and take note of what the customer is trying to tell you, you'll realise that sometimes there's a flaw in the system. Could the flaw be rectified? DEFINITELY! However they rather cover thier arses, and make all the excuses they can find, rather than try to improve. Sometimes you have to put yourself in the customers shoes and see if they were being bitchy or that the service was really crap.

Honestly for that day, the service was crap as a salad came out before iced water. Worse still, a sandwich came out before 2 glasses of wine. Really? You still want to make excuses for your staff and insist that the customer was being a bitch? The bar might have a lot of orders but that doesn't mean the kitchen was just waiting for orders, had salads all ready & waiting in the fridge, or had sandwiches pre-made waiting to be toasted.

So you've always said you don't like other outlet's staff coming around and changing things, but I think it's high time you look at your attitude that is rubbing off your staff, that they give excuses because you give excuses. They've gone cocky because you've been cocky by saying that customers are bitchy and so no matter how badly you do, it's just that the customer is having a bad day rather than it being lousy service rendered.

Who's Reading This?

I haven't been blogging much lately, let alone editing the blog. Then I decided to update some links in I had and that's when I finally got an answer to a something I've wondered about for quite some time - "Who's reading my blog?".

Finally I get to the tab about the traffic flow to the blog and I find out who actually visits quite often, and that honor goes to Ms UbeRFan!

I also found out that a certain picture has led quite a few people to the blog, and definitely the link on my FB profile does its job for some people.

It also gets interesting to know that site visits are rather high on certain days. Probably some people just keep coming along trying to find out things they don't dare to ask, hoping that I've already blogged about the issue.

Oh well... stay tuned for more I guess.

Sometimes, You Really Surprise Me

When you insist that you want to carry all the shopping.

When you decide to hold the door open.

To show some concern regarding my wellbeing.

Remembering what we had at the restaurant more than a year ago, what we had the first time, and where.

That you want to change because of something I said.

and sometimes I wonder why.....

Someone Like You

"I heard that you've settled down, that you've found a girl and you're married now...."

That line alone from the song reminds me of you but it's never good when I get reminded of all the good times we still could have had if you were just honest. Still don't understand what went on in that head of yours, to decide to lie about her and what eventually would take place, but I think you were in your own fantasy world. Seriously, the memory of the stories you came up with - my life being in danger, having 2 passports, going on top secret missions - just goes to show how much of a nut case you became trying to keep things secret.

"You lost the love I loved the most"
"It took so long just to feel alright...'cos you broke all your promises"

Guess it was only hard at first because I still loved you as one of my best friends, but as time went by, I stopped missing you and started missing the things we did. I still miss the times just having someone to call and chat when I was down, who would meet me at the Palm and just laugh the night away under the stars without a care in the world what time it was. It still hurts whenever I drive past that spot.

"Nevermind I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too"

I know I'll never find someone like you, and I don't think I really would want to find another nut case like you. But someone to share that same kind of lighthearted, easygoing fun we had..... That I would love to find again.

I think I'm at the point I'm ready to meet you face to face and thank you for opening my eyes, and for making me much more wary of people like you.

I wish you well and hope you have a good life in whichever path you take.

He's Out Of My Life....

....and I hope for good. Memories of him will stay on for sure but I hope I don't ever have to work with him, or someone of his "calibre" again.

Finally... DoDo has left the building!!!!

Year 7

Last year I wished I had more control in life compared to the blog. I guess my wish sort of came true... which is good enough for me.

Life has been busier since I started permanently with the company and I'm not complaining other than the fact that there's someone just pulling everyone down at work. Good news is that he's finally decided to leave, and no one is actually sad about it. That's the sad part I guess - that someone can be so disliked that everyone is happy about the fact that he's leaving. Oh well.....

Looking at the past year, there hasn't been much posts in anger, which I guess is a good sign. I think.

Maybe it's time for another blog challenge.

What's With Labels?

It's one thing when people label and keep the label away from your knowledge, and another to hear someone label you to your face. So we've all probably heard the typical ones like "bitch", "stupid idiot", and "arsehole" called out in anger or out of fun, but there's one that seems to irritate me quite a bit - "rich".

Why would such a label irritate me? Probably because I do not consider myself as such. I might have all I need for my future but that doesn't mean I'm rich. What I am is "lucky", and I never denied that. I don't consider myself rich as I still wonder if I'll be able to pay the bills in the future, or if I can take care of my parents and my family if I ever have my own kids.

Back to the irritation, being called "rich" once might be considered as a joke. However, to be referred to as "rich" one too many times by the same person, you wonder what is up. Does this person really think that I'm so rich that they have to be of a different social status? Or that they can never enjoy the same things because you only will go for the high-end choices like expensive restaurants and forms of entertainment? So I might like certain food outlets better than others, not because it's a restaurant while the other is in a food court, but because of the food. I rather watch movies in the comfort of my own home than in cinemas, listen to the radio and read a book rather than go shopping.

So if the things I like doing end up helping me save more than I spend, does that really make me rich? Does my housing location make me rich? Does having a supplementary card make me rich? I might be rich, but it has nothing to do with wealth.

Such A Sad Day, I Lost My Focus

As I was getting ready for work this morning, a call came through Mom's phone from Dad. Strange, especially when he only calls her during Saturdays, and sometimes he forgets. So when Mom asked "what news" and her eyes got teary, I knew that Grandma passed away.

Throughout the day, questions were going through my head wondering how we will arrange to get to the UK again, when will we leave and when I would come back, how long it would take to settle the manpower situation for the outlet and so on. Not forgetting the billion calls that came in just about work crap, getting stuff ready for the meeting with the bosses.

Didn't even know where I was driving half the time. I took 2 wrong turns today - Seriously what the hell?

Guess I'm glad I managed to see her before she passed on, but I'm sad for Grandpa who has to deal with this all on his own, just 5 days after we left him to get back.

Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man

Oddly enough, I got this book all because of the interviews done with the author, Steve Harvey, on the Ellen show and Oprah. Some of the things he said were just too funny and I wondered how good a read it would be, not realising that I was actually going to read a relationship help book. However, after reading through it, and even though it was an eye-opener to some behaviours of guys, it did make me laugh at a lot of things, and also laugh every now and then when certain things mentioned pops up in life.

There quite a few things mentioned in the book that I do get to see and experience from some of the guys that I know, and Dad is also one walking example. It started right from the beginning, the first thing a guy would do if you are someone special is to give you a title. This one makes me question the one 'title' that someone has been using for more than 15 years. Then it was followed by the part that they will "make sure our families are set - whether we're dead or alive". That line made me think of what my dad has been proud of all this time, that he has not only provided for his own family, he has also provided some sort of security for my sis and I with homes to each of our names. The last point made in the very beginning is the protective instinct, that he will "destroy anything and everything in his path to make sure that whoever disrespects you parts for it". And this is definitely true with so many of the men I know; from my grandfathers, father, uncles and friends.

The book goes on to tell you what should you do so that you don't end up being puppet on a string, or basically a dumbarse waiting for the guy to get things straight. Lets you know how to get what you want and at the same time judge if the guy is even worth you time our effort.

There was this one part that reminded me of another person; "Men love to talk about themselves. We do this because we know that in order to catch you, we have to impress you." Well this same person not only can talk your ears off, he oddly exhibits behaviours the lady should according to the book.
