I've been on the look out for interesting things I could do during the winter season in Australia and I have been rather surprised at the amount of food-related events that are being held. Today, we head to the Truffle Festival in Fremantle, which is the second year the area is holding this event. I was hoping to join the Truffle Kerfuffle but that was just too far to travel without a second driver.
Anyway, this festival was free, and it was tiny, but awesome at the same time. There were cooking demonstrations, free tastings and really interesting ideas for truffle usage on display. The Ipastai people were quite nice, giving me two pieces of their Raviolo al Tartufo to try as I waited for me truffle topped gnocchi to be made. The little taster just instantly made me want to get a big pack of that ravioli and just snack on it! Then came the tasting the lovely stuff from the Great Southern Truffles tent which sent fireworks to my brain. I never really knew what the appeal of truffles were, especially with the light sprinkle of it on "truffle fries", but tasting the truffle butter really got me understanding the true truffle power. What really got me excited was actually the truffle mustard, and of course, being able to purchase a tiny piece of truffle to experiment with.
I then brought that truffle back and hope that I can train my sister's two dogs to seek them out in the future. Hahaha!
