Trial And Error

Went to Sheng Siong and saw a rather small pack of pumpkin buns in the freezer. I remembered the fried ones we had in Tokyo and had the thought to fry these up. I love fried buns on their own, but they are also nice with some interesting filling like this pumpkin one. The feel of the crispy skin cracking as you bite into it, then cutting through a slightly denser layer of bread, and finally stopping when it reaches the soft velvety filling.

Although it can be seen I wasn't watching my fire close enough, and there wasn't enough oil in the pan, the crisping of the outer layer was achieved and that was the important part. The pumpkin can be tasted, but I found it a little sweet, and it reminded me of kaya (coconut jam). I would say it would make a nice, hot, sinful dessert if I feel lazy.
